Troubleshooting Mobile Text Alert Failures
Mobile Text Alerts via SMS Gateway Discontinued - What to Know Moving Forward
As of June 17, 2025, AT&T is officially discontinuing its Email-to-Text (SMS Gateway) service. Messages sent to @txt.att.net
and @mms.att.net
addresses are no longer delivered to AT&T mobile phones. This change affects any systems that previously relied on SMS gateway delivery -including mobile alerts from BlueNote Communicator. This also affects Cricket subscribers (an AT&T subsidiary) and their ability to send messages to @txt.cricket.net
or @mms.cricket.net
.
โ ๏ธ The End of SMS Gateway Reliability
The SMS gateway service once offered a simple, free method to convert email messages into text alerts. For years, users entered mobile email addresses provided by carriers, such as 1234567890@txt.att.net
- to receive time-sensitive messages via text.
However, AT&T confirmed in a public statement that the service would sunset in mid-June 2025. The company is not alone. Other major carriers, including Verizon and T-Mobile, have already reduced support for SMS gateways or eliminated delivery guarantees. As a result, SMS-based email delivery has become increasingly unreliable from many mobile carriers.
โ Mobile Notification Alternatives in BlueNote Communicator
To ensure continued, consistent alert delivery, BlueNote Communicator Lights Version 9 supports two alternative notification relays, both of which remain unaffected by the discontinuation of SMS gateway services.
1. Standard Email Notifications
Mobile notifications can be sent to any regular email address (e.g., Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo). These messages are delivered without carrier involvement and remain dependable.
2. Pushover Mobile App
Pushover offers a real-time, push-based alternative for mobile alerts:
- Compatible with iOS, Android, and smart watches
- Delivers messages instantly, bypassing carrier infrastructure
- Requires a simple one-time setup within BlueNote Communicator
- Free trial available; a one-time $5 license fee applies

๐ Updating Mobile Notification Settings
To continue receiving alerts through BlueNote Communicator, users must ensure their notification settings are current. The update process involves:
- Opening BlueNote Communicator
Navigating to Menu > Notifications > Alert Manager > Mobile Notifications
Removing any obsolete SMS gateway address (e.g.,
1234567890@txt.att.net
)Replacing it with either:
- A valid personal email address, or
- The registered Pushover email/user key
This update is necessary to avoid disruptions in mobile alert delivery, as SMS gateway messages are no longer viable.
Mobile messaging infrastructure has shifted, but BlueNote Communicator continues to offer reliable solutions for real-time alerts on personal devices, no mobile carrier gateway required. Users may also consider implementing the BlueNote Remote View on any device with a web browser that can be used when that device is connected to the private office network.
